About the S20
The S20 brings together the national science academies of G20 member states, including the RSC, and serves as a platform for dialogue between the scientific community and policymakers. Like the G20, the S20 operates through a rotating annual presidency and functions as a forum rather than a formal organization, with its summit typically held in advance of the corresponding G20 Leaders’ Summit.
Throughout each annual cycle, participating academies collaborate on priority global issues and develop joint statements containing science-based recommendations and actionable measures for G20 leaders. These proposals form the basis of the S20 communiqué, which is formally presented for consideration at the G20 Summit.
