Recognized worldwide as one of the leading experts in artificial intelligence, Yoshua Bengio is best known for his pioneering work in deep learning, earning him the 2018 A.M. Turing Award, “the Nobel Prize of Computing,” with Geoffrey Hinton and Yann LeCun. He is Full Professor at Université de Montréal, and the Founder and Scientific Advisor of Mila – Quebec AI Institute. He chairs the Advisory Committee of the CIFAR program in Learning in Machines & Brains as Senior Fellow and acts as Scientific Director of IVADO and holds a Canada CIFAR AI Chair. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, the country's most significant scientific prize. BENIDICKSON, Jamie – Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa Jamie Benidickson’s contributions in environmental law, legal history and public policy are widely known, particularly his detailed analyses of natural resource management and interdisciplinary work on the legal framework for water and wastewater infrastructure, which has attracted international attention within the legal, social sciences, engineering, and public health communities. Cecilia Benoit is an internationally renowned expert on midwifery, maternity care and the health of vulnerable populations, including Aboriginal women and families, adults in the sex industry and street-involved youth. Through her innovative, mixed research methodologies and highly-cited publications, she has contributed to a better understanding of how the law, gender inequality and stigmatization affects the health and safety of these populations, both in Canada and other countries.

David M.R. Bentley, Department of English, The University of Western Ontario, is one of the foremost contributors to research in the field of pre-twentieth century Canadian literature, particularly in the area of the long poem. Bentley has also made enormous contributions to Canadian poetry through his dedicated work as an editor. He co-founded and edits Canadian Poetry: Studies, Documents, Reviews. His Mimic Fires: Accounts of Early Long Poems on Canada and his anthology of Early Long Poems on Canada marked a milestone in Canadian letters. His scholarship is admirable for its quality, its completeness, and its balance.

BERGEN, Doris - University of Toronto Doris Bergen is an internationally recognized Holocaust historian. Using an integrative approach, viewing the Holocaust and war as intertwined and considering Jews and non-Jews as victims, she reveals the dynamic contagion of extreme violence. Her innovations established Christianity as a key component of Nazi antisemitism; defined the importance of ethnic Germans in Eastern Europe to anti-Jewish policies; and demonstrated the significance of gender and sexuality in the Holocaust.

Benjamin L. Berger holds the York Research Chair in Pluralism and Public Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. He is internationally recognized for his interdisciplinary scholarship exposing the complex nature of secularism, the limits of state law, and the implications of both for religious pluralism, equality, and constitutionalism. Among Canada’s foremost scholars of constitutional and criminal law, his work has shaped debates on the role of public law in deeply diverse societies.

Dr. Bergeron holds the NSERC/UQAT/UQAM Industrial Chair and the Canadian Research Chair in Ecology and Sustainable Forest Management, and he is known internationally for the exceptional quality of his research on boreal forest. He received numerous awards and has been a member of the Royal Society of Canada since 2010.

Joule Bergerson is the Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Energy Technology Assessment at the University of Calgary. Dr. Bergerson is an international leader in energy technology assessment, whose research on life cycle modelling has been adopted by both industry and policy-makers. Her models and first-of-its-kind Oil-Climate Index have resulted in significant improvement in the assessment of the carbon intensity of oil products throughout their life cycles and supply chains.
