Harris, Richard - Geography - McMaster University
Richard Harris is one of North America’s leading scholars in social and urban history. His acclaimed book Unplanned Suburbs (1996) and later writings, with their focus on working-class suburbs and the role of the self-built houses, have influenced research on suburbanization throughout this continent. He has also published on a range of issues having to do with residential development and housing policy, as they relate to both developed and developing economies. He skillfully blends the approach of the historian with the analysis of the social scientist, and his judgments and perspectives are valued and respected widely.
