Long Citation
Demetri Terzopoulos, computer scientist and engineer, is an internationally renowned leader in the fields of computer vision and computer graphics. His work has contributed fundamentally to the ongoing unification of these two fields. Co-inventor of the seminal active contours ("snakes") algorithm, he is famous for pioneering deformable models and for spearheading their application in vision and graphics, as well as in related domains such as medical imaging and computer-aided design. His artificial life research combines scientific theories of biomechanics, autonomous control, perception, learning, and intelligence to yield remarkably realistic computer simulations of humans and lower animals.
