Steve E. Hrudey is an internationally-recognized authority in the fields of drinking water safety and environmental health risk assessment and management. His pioneering research on cyanobacterial toxins was a major impetus for Canada's drinking water guideline on microcystin; later he was an architect of the risk management restructuring of Australia's Drinking Water Guidelines. He was also a principal scientific advisor to Justice Dennis O'Connor for the Walkerton Inquiry in Ontario. He now chairs the Environmental Appeals Board, a quasi-judicial tribunal for the Province of Alberta.
