Thomson, David - Mathematics and Statistics - Queen’s University
David Thomson is the inventor of the multitaper method of statistical spectrum estimation. It resolves long-standing theoretical problems, is easily computed, and is statistically efficient. Application of this powerful method has allowed him to make significant discoveries in engineering, space physics, and climate. As an outstanding example, he used the multitaper method to show coherence between atmospheric CO2 and temperature, direct proof of global warming. Dr. Thomson’s multitaper methods are now being used in numerous fields including science, medicine, and engineering.
