PETER N. NIKIFORUK, Dean, College of Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, has made important contributions to the field of automatic control systems. His main areas of research are adaptive and electrohydraulic control systems. He pioneered analytic and experimental work on the response of nonlinear control systems to random inputs, and was one of the first to perform closed loop digital simulations. More recently, he and co-workers contributed to broad area of frequency and time domain response of control systems. He has published or co-authored over 250 papers, several of which have received prizes - the most recent was the Kelvin Premium from the Institute of Electrical Engineers (UK).

Jaan Noolandi, whose fundamental theoretical work has contributed to the better understanding of complex polymeric systems, including polymer blends, block copolymers, polymeric surfactants, reptation theory of entangled polymer melts, and gel electrophoresis of DNA, is one of the world's leading polymer physicists. The work on pulsed electric field gel electrophoresis of single and double stranded DNA drew on an analogy with dispersive transport phenomena of charge in amorphous semiconductors. This work established a solid quantitative basis for the separation of charged macromolecules in a gel, allowing for subsequent applications of the pulsed field technique to DNA sequencing with an extended range of chemical base recognition. This work has supported the human genome project with both theory and hardware development and commercialization.

Luc Noppen est professeur titulaire à l'École d'architecture de l'Université Laval; il oeuvre depuis plus de vingt ans à la formation et à la recherche en histoire de l'art et de l'architecture du Québec et dirige, a dirigé ou co-dirigé plus de trente thèses ou mémoires en histoire de l'architecture. Auteur, entres autres, de « Québec Trois siècles d'architecture » (1979), il a aussi collaboré de façon importante aux deux tomes des « Chemins de la mémoire » (1990-1991) et publié « Québec monumental 1890-1990 » (1990). Membre de l'équipe lauréate du 1992 Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence, Luc Noppen s'est notamment engagé dans la recherche fondamentale sur la création, la conservation et la restauration de l'objet architectural, ancien ou moderne. Ses nombreux travaux et ses publications recouvrent des champs variés, depuis la muséologie jusqu'aux pratiques architecturales, et participent tant à la diffusion des connaissances qu'au renouvellement des problématiques en histoire de l'architecture au Québec. Luc Noppen est actuellement membre du comité aviseur du projet Faubourg Québec (Montréal) et coordonnateur du programme des Prix d'excellence de l'Ordre des architectes du Québec. NORTHWOOD, Derek O. – Department of Mechanical, Automotive & Materials Engineering, University of Windsor Derek O. Northwood’s contributions to Materials Science and Engineering focusing on materials characterization have earned him national and international recognition and numerous prestigious honours and fellowships.
