2020Louis-Paul Rivest is an applied statistician holding a Canada Research Chair in Statistical Sampling and Data Analysis. He is a pioneer of the mathematical theory of copulas for modeling stochastic dependence. His works in multivariate analysis, in directional statistics, on capture-recapture models and in survey sampling have had a fundamental impact on the applications of statistical sciences in finance, in actuarial sciences, in social statistics, in environmental science, and in biomechanics.
Louis-Paul Rivest est un statisticien appliqué, titulaire d’une Chaire de recherche du Canada en échantillonnage statistique et analyse de données. Il est un pionnier de la théorie mathématique des copules pour la modélisation de la dépendance stochastique. Ses travaux en analyse multidimensionnelle, en statistique directionnelle, sur les modèles de capture-recapture, et en échantillonnage ont eu un impact fondamental sur la mise en application des sciences statistiques dans le domaine de la finance, en actuariat, en statistiques sociales, en sciences environnementales et en biomécanique.
