Pierre Noreau is both a legal practitioner and a jurist. He has made remarkable contributions to the field of sociology of law. Drawing on the theory of norms, his work paved the way for the renewal of research on the institutionalization and deinstitutionalization processes taking place in most every society today. Head of several major interdisciplinary research consortiums, he is the founder of the Institut québécois de réforme du droit et de la justice.
Pierre Noreau est à la fois juriste et politologue. Il a remarquablement contribué au développement de la sociologie du droit. Inspirés par la théorie du changement et la théorie des normes, ses travaux ont ouvert la porte au renouvellement de la recherche sur les processus d’institutionnalisation et de désinstitutionalisation qui traversent chaque société. À la tête de très importants consortiums de recherche interdisciplinaires, il a fondé l’Institut québécois de réforme du droit et de la justice.
