Long Citation (for publication and press release)
Steve Perry is among the world’s foremost fish physiologists. He has made seminal contributions to the understanding of ion and acid-base transport in the gills, the control of carbon dioxide excretion, the key role of carbon dioxide in cardio-respiratory regulation, the functions of circulating adrenaline and noradrenaline in controlling oxygen transport and acid-base status, the mechanisms by which these hormones are released, and the physiology of red blood cells in fish. He has inspired a legion of highly successful trainees, and provided immense administrative, organizational, and editorial service to the academic community.
