LONG
Ellen Bialystok is one of the world's leaders in the scientific investigation of second language acquisition and bilingualism. Her rigorous empirical research and brilliant theoretical analyses have demonstrated that bilingualism is important not only for understanding individuals who use more than one language, but also as a powerful tool for investigating the factors that enable and constrain general cognitive development. She has shown elegantly and convincingly that bilingual children and adults exhibit marked cognitive advantages in both linguistic and nonlinguistic tasks. Ellen Bialystok has been a pioneer in bringing research on bilingualism into the mainstream of cognitive and developmental psychology.
