KELLER, Gordon – Department of Medical Biophysics, University of Toronto and McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University Health Network Gordon Keller is internationally recognized for his contributions to our understanding of the developmental and therapeutic potential of pluripotent stem cells (PSCs). Grounded by principles of developmental biology, he pioneered methods for the guided differentiation of PSCs into vascular, blood, cardiac, pancreatic and hepatic cells. His discoveries represent a major step forward toward the development of novel stem cell-based therapies for the treatment of a range of degenerative diseases.

Gary Kelly, from the Department of English at the University, took his degrees from the University of Toronto and Oxford. His first book, "The English Jacobin Novel", published by Clarendon Press, is a major study in intellectual history as well as literary criticism. His subsequent books, on "English Fiction of the Romantic Period", on Mary Wollstonecraft, and on women's writing and the French Revolution, continue to explore literature in the light of the philosophical, political and social conditions of the time in which it was written. Formerly a Killam Research Fellow, he is launched in editing a multi-volume project on women's writing in English from the middle ages to the present. For three years (1994-97) he was Professor at Keele University in England.

John-Michael Kendall's research covers pure and applied geophysics, with connections to mineral physics, geodynamics, natural resources and engineering. Leading seismic field experiments in geologic settings ranging from the Canadian Arctic to Ethiopia, he has made pioneering contributions to the study of the structure and dynamics of the Earth's interior, with a focus on seismic anisotropy.

Doctor Kendrick has published more than 300 papers on fungi. These include descriptions of new genera and species, revision of existing classifications, discovery and description of processes involved in spore production, and elucidation of the ecological role played by fungi in leaf litter decomposition. He has served as member and chairman (resp.) of NRC and NSERC Grant Selection Committees, as Associate Editor of Can. J. Botany, and as referee for several other international journals. He has translated a Mycology text from German to English, has edited and contributed chapters to a second book, and has authored a third. In 1979-80 he held a Guggenheim Fellowship and is studying marine fungi that erode coral reefs. He supervised 25 graduate students during his time at the University of Waterloo (1965-94) and has published four editions of his mycology textbook, The Fifth Kingdom, the most recent appearing in 2017.

Joseph Kess, Department of Linguistics, University of Victoria, is an internationally respected scholar in the interdisciplinary field of psycholinguistics. His broad range of knowledge of non- Indo-European languages such as Tagalog, Japanese, Motu (Papua New Guinea) as well as of several First Nations languages of British Columbia is truly impressive. Given his thorough linguistic training, he is an outstanding academic who combines a penetrating grasp of rather diverse languages with an admirable familiarity with current issues in general linguistic theory which together have enabled him to directly engage the pressing questions in psycholinguistic research today. There are few Canadian scholars who have been as committed to demonstrating the interdependence of psycholinguistic theory on language data, and their interactive role within the developing goals of the sciences of language.

Peter Kevan’s extensive pioneering ecological, zoological, and botanical contributions are truly interdisciplinary. His international, Arctic-to-tropical, interests embrace ecosystem function and stress, sustainability, conservation, pollination terrain disruption and soil ecology, habitat fragmentation, pesticides, and urban ecology. ------------------ KEVAN, Peter G. –Department of Environmental Biology, University of Guelph Kevan’s extensive pioneering ecological, zoological, and botanical contributions are truly interdisciplinary. He elucidated unsuspectedly tight pollination relations between Arctic insects and plants. His studies on floral colours link botany to insect colour vision ecophysiology. For greenhouse and field crops, his cross-cutting research on pollinators for vectoring biocontrol agents exemplifies rigorous, practical lateral thinking. A world leader in pollination conservation, he served on the US-NAS panel "Status of Pollinators in North American", leads our Strategic Network "NSERC-CANPOLIN" and is chair of the International Commission for Bee-Plant Relationships. His international, Arctic-to-tropical, interests embrace ecosystem function and stress, sustainability, conservation, terrain disruption and soil ecology, habitat fragmentation, pesticides, and urban ecology.

KHADEMHOSSEINI, Alireza – Departments of Radiology, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Bioengineering, University of California, Los Angeles For global leadership in tissue engineering and biomaterials research.
