Brad Inwood is generally recognized in the international classical and philosophical academic communities as one of the two most important scholars writing on ancient Greek philosophy in Canada. When a revised version of his doctoral thesis was published in 1985 as a book with the title "Ethics and Human Action in Early Stoicism", it was at once saluted as one of the best books on Hellenistic philosophy produced in the last generation. His recent translation of and commentary on the poem of Empedocles (Toronto, 1992) is already a standard work equally appreciated by both students and seasoned scholars.

Nafissa Ismail is dedicated to women health research and to the prevention of mental illnesses. She is well-known for illuminating previously unknown biological pathways rendering females more sensitive to stress during adolescence, which would increase their vulnerability to mental illnesses. She has also discovered that specific bacteria in the gut can increase reliance to stress. Her breakthroughs and important achievements have been well-recognized with numerous distinctions and awards.

Victor Ivrii, Department of Mathematics, University of Toronto, is Canada's most distinguished expert on partial differential equations. He proved, by methods of exceptional depth and beauty, the Weyl conjecture on the second term in the asymptotics of the counting function for the eigenvalues of a Laplacian on a manifold with boundary. That conjecture had been open for 70 years and attracted some of the strongest geometric analysts. His other works on hyperbolic equations, fine spectral asymptotics and mathematics of large atoms have won him respect and admiration of experts around the world. His forthcoming book on spectral asymptotics is the most insightful and original treatise in that well developed field.

Srividya Iyer is an international leader in youth mental health and early intervention, especially for serious mental illnesses. Her research seeks to ensure that more young people in Canada and beyond have timely access to appropriate mental healthcare and enjoy well-being and social participation. Along with exceptional research and clinical accomplishments, Srividya’s outstanding contributions include the engagement of diverse stakeholders, particularly youth and family service users, in services delivery and research.

The Cost of Climate Policy (2002) won the Outstanding Research Contribution Award of the Canadian Policy Research Institute (80 competing books) and Sustainable Fossil Fuels (2006) won the Donner Prize for top policy book in Canada (55 competitors).

With his steady production of books, chapters in books and articles, Richard Jackson has established himself internationally as an outstanding contributor to Latin American literary scholarship. He has studied with particular distinction the writings of authors of African descent, his landmark book "Black Literature and Humanism in Latin America" demonstrating in its plenitude the combination of rigorous research, attractive writing and warm human feeling that has marked his years of dedicated work. He has always responded generously to the demands made on him internationally for various forms of expert collegial service.

LONG CITATION David Jackson is a superb mathematical researcher, recognized around the world as a leader in algebraic combinatorics. He has been at the forefront as this field has developed over the last thirty years into a mature discipline. Perhaps most notable has been the creative vision that has consistently driven Professor Jackson's work, and the subsequent independence and novelty of his contributions. His impact in combinatorics has been remarkable, but in other areas touched by his work, he has also made substantial contributions, including algebra, mathematical physics and, most recently, geometry, due to his high-profile research on ramified covers of surfaces. Cornelius Jaenen is a renaissance man of Canadian historical scholarship. His internationally recognized work spans four centuries of Canadian history, ranging from Amerindian-French relations to church history, educational history and ethnic studies. An innovator in each area, he has been an architect of multiculturalism in Canada. His major books, "Role of the Church in New France" and "Friend and Foe" brilliantly cracked mental and cultural codes of French and Amerindians, dispelling myths of French enlightenment, of Native cultural fragility and dependence, of simple interrelations. Nuance, subtlety, sensitivity, creativity, elegance and sophistication distinguish Jaenen's historical characters and his historical work.

Praveen Jain is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Queen’s University and the Tier I Canada Research Chair in Power Electronics – a scientific field to which he has made numerous original and substantial contributions. His most significant work is concerned with the advancement of high frequency power conversion technology for its use in the space, telecommunications, computer and induction melting industries.

Dr. Brian R. James has an outstanding international reputation for his research on homogeneous catalysis, and bioinorganic and medicinal inorganic chemistry. His work, particularly on the use of complexes of rhodium (Rh) and ruthenium (Ru) to catalyse the hydrogenation, oxidation, and carbonylation of hydrocarbons, and decarbonylation of organic compounds, has attracted world-wide attention and has clearly established him as a leading scientist in the field of catalysis. Original work on Ru complexes has shown these to be important metalloenzyme models for some biological catalytic processes. Over his 50 year independent career to 2014, in which some 54 Ph.D. and 26 M.Sc. students have graduated, his group has published about 450 papers, and 8 patents mainly in the pulp and paper area; over 100 postdoctoral workers and visiting faculty have spent time with him at the Univ. of BC. The research has generated 30 National and International awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship (1983), the Jacob Biely Award (top UBC research prize) (1986), the CIC Catalysis Award (1990), a Canada Council Killam Fellowship (1993), the RSC Award in Chemistry of the Noble Metals and Their Compounds (1996), the E.W.R. Steacie Award (1997), the CIC Medal (2000), and the Rylander Award (2007).
