Using the micropuncture technique, which he introduced into Canada, Dr. Dirks has made major contributions to our knowledge of the mechanisms of action of diuretics, and on the transport of calcium by the kidney. He studied magnesium transport in terms of segmental nephron function, and more recently has thrown light on sodium transport by the kidney in heart failure. This distinguished and creative research career has brought distinction to Canada in this field. In his capacity as President of the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation, Dr. Dirks has provided outstanding leadership by his intervention on behalf of medical research in Canada.

Maziar Divangahi is an internationally renowned pulmonary immunologist who has made major contributions to our understanding of both innate and adaptive immunity to pulmonary infectious diseases. Nedjib Djilali is an international leader in advanced computational modelling and clean energy technology. Sandra Djwa has been an important contributor to, and pioneering developer of, the study of Canadian poetry, literary history, and biography.
As an editor of primary texts she has made the work of several important Canadians poets such as F.R. Scott, E.J. Pratt, Carl Klinck, and P.K. Page, available in impeccable scholarly editions.
As the biographer of F.R. Scott, she has shaped the story not only of a leading Canadian poet, political thinker, and lawyer but also of the country.
Her biography of Roy Daniells, Professing English, is also charts the study of English as a discipline and the emergence of Canadian Literature as a field of study. It received the Lorne Pierce Award.
She has written many seminal, often reprinted, critical articles. The author of ten books, she received the Governor General's Award for Non-Fiction "Journey with No Maps: A Biography of P.K. Page” (2013). She was awarded the Canada Prize in the Humanities (2014).
Honorary Degrees: a D.Litt from Memorial University (2002) and D.Lett McGill University (2016) . She was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 2020.
Dr. Vlastimil Dlab

Dr. Dlab's mathematical work is devoted to algebra. His first interest was the theory of infinite abelian groups. He evolved later to the study of endomorphisms of abelian groups, with some incursions into the theory of ordered groups and universal algebras. His most significant work is the one done recently in collaboration with C. Ringel. It is a study of perfect rings, universal rings, balanced rings, their structure and representation theory.

Professor Merlin Donald has had, in a sense, two careers. First, he has had a distinguished career as an experimental neuroscientist working mainly in the technical fields of human electrophysiology and neuropsychology. Second, in the last decade he has turned to theoretical work on cognitive evolution, producing a remarkable book, "Origins of the Modern Mind: Three Stages in the Evolution of Culture and Cognition", a work of vast synthesis which has achieved international acclaim and provoked widespread discussion.
His second book, "A Mind So Rare: The evolution of human consciousness" was published in the Spring of 2001 by W.W. Norton, New York. He subsequently served as Head of Psychology at Queen's. In 2005, he became Professor Emeritus at Queen's and became founding Chair of the Department of Cognitive Science at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. In 2010 he was appointed Honorary Professor at Aarhus Unversity, Denmark and in 2016, Fellow of the Swedish Collegium, Uppsala.

E.M.Donaldson, Research Scientist in the West Vancouver Laboratory, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, studies reproduction, growth and genetics of fishes - particularly salmon. Research on reproductive hormones has contributed methods used to induce breeding and control the timing of egg production; growth hormone studies show potential for the development of larger fish, while the genetical studies permit the production of populations of either males or females - an important advance for both industry and fish culturist. Andrew Donskov is a leading Canadian Slavist in Russian literature and a world-renowned Tolstoy expert. His meticulous research on Tolstoy's drama and the perception of the Russian peasantry (especially religious dissidents) on the part of Tolstoy and other nineteenth-century Russian writers challenged prevailing critical opinion.
