Marc Cadotte is an internationally recognized ecologist who examines fundamental questions about biological diversity in ecosystems and how human activities impact ecosystem health. He has pioneered biodiversity measures that quantify species differences using genetic and trait-based information to better understand the links between biodiversity and ecosystem function, predict and control invasive species, and how environmental changes influence the delivery of ecosystem services, especially in the places where we live.

Alain Caillé is a leading theoretician in condensed matter physics who has predicted a number of very different effects in complicated systems on the basis of simple models he has developed. These have ranged from the prediction of a type of long-range order in smectic liquid crystals which was contrary to much of the established wisdom of the time but is now observed experimentally, to the more recent prediction of novel behaviour in lateral diffusion near the melting transition of lipid bilayers. His use of simple models to gain understanding of physical systems is an exceptional talent.

Debra Cairns’ extraordinary contributions to choral music over the past 23 years span the full spectrum of research and creative activity. An award-winning conductor and an internationally published scholar, Dr. Cairns has received recognition in both the performance and academic domains through CD publications, national broadcast recordings and competition prizes with her chamber choir i Coristi, as well as articles, a scholarly edition of a Renaissance mass, and a book.

CALAS, Georges – Institute of Mineralogy, Materials Physics and Cosmochemistry, University Pierre and Marie Curie Georges Calas is a pioneer in integrating spectroscopic and structural methods to understand, at a molecular scale, disordered materials, including structure-property relationships in natural minerals and synthetic materials. His work has had major impact on the crystal chemistry of minor elements in minerals, the structure and properties of glasses, radiation damage and radiogenic waste, and environmental mineralogy. He has shown great ingenuity and a command of experimental techniques that is second to none worldwide.

CALAS, Georges – Institute of Mineralogy, Materials Physics and Cosmochemistry, University Pierre and Marie Curie Georges Calas est un pionnier de l’intégration des méthodes spectroscopiques et structurales pour comprendre, à une échelle moléculaire, les matériaux désordonnés, ce qui comprend les relations entre les structures et les propriétés dans les minéraux naturels et les matériaux synthétiques. Since coming from Scotland to Canada in 1957 Dr. Glen Caldwell, has made outstanding contributions to the sciences of stratigraphy and paleontology, particularly to those pertaining to the Cretaceous System of the Western Interior of North America. His meticulous and critical approach to geological research and to science in general has earned him respect and admiration among his colleagues in Canada and the United States. His advice on nomenclatorial and editorial policy is much sought after and has led him to active participation in several national and international committees of geological organizations. Dr. Caldwell's reputation as a geologist of note is not only spread through his writings, which are substantial, but also through his many well-trained students. Beyond Dr. Caldwell's extensive geological knowledge lies an admirable administrative ability and wide cultural scope in literature, art, and music.

Dr. William Callahan's pre-eminent work in the field of Spanish history, and in particular of Spanish Church history, spans more than three decades and is remarkable not only for its superb quality but for its prodigious quantity. Historians who master a second language and culture to the degree that Dr. Callahan does, offer to their field a special perceptivity and depth of understanding which is rare and extremely valuable. The fact that much of his work has been translated into Spanish is indicative of the value which his colleagues attach to his careful research and his clear judgements.

Calvert has distinguished himself in the field of marine geochemistry by focussing on diagenesis, the chemical and mineralogical transformation of sediments, a crucial step in global biogeochemical cycles. He has explained the transformation of diatomaceous sediments into chert; his account of the formation of ferromanganese nodules that blanket much of the ocean floor is by now widely accepted. His recent work has focussed on the evolution (possibly into petroleum rocks) of organic-rich sediments under anoxic conditions. Calvert has also been an extraordinarily dynamic and influential proponent of marine sciences in Canada and has brought marine geochemistry into the mainstream of Canadian oceanography.

A professor at McGill University’s Department of Social Studies of Medicine, Alberto Cambrosio’s work focuses on the socio-material culture of biomedical practices, and in particular on the study of the application of modern bio-clinical techniques to the diagnosis and the therapy of cancer, the development of innovative cancer clinical trials, and the emergence of heterogeneous translational research networks of clinicians, researchers, patients, and pharmaceutical companies.

Aurélie Campana is professor of political science at Université Laval and has held the Canada Research Chair on Conflicts and Terrorism since 2007. Her work mainly addresses the dynamics of civil wars, their diffusion regionally and the use of terrorism. Interested in the various forms of political violence, she also studies the radicalization processes of right-wing militant extremists in Canada.

Aurélie Campana est professeure titulaire de science politique à l’Université Laval et titulaire depuis 2007 de la Chaire de recherche du Canada sur les conflits et le terrorisme. Ses travaux portent principalement sur les dynamiques des guerres civiles, leur diffusion à une échelle régionale et l’usage du terrorisme. David A. Campbell, Professor of Classics at the University of Victoria, B.C., is internationally acknowledged as a leading authority on ancient Greek Lyric Poetry. His achievements as an editor and commentator have been established by his "Greek Lyric Poetry" (London, 1967), now the standard university text in this field in the English-speaking world, and as a textual critic and translator by the first volume of "Greek Lyric", (1982) - (for the Loeb Classical Library); volume II, (1988), volume III, (1991), volume IV, (1992), and volume V, (1993) - now a complete set. His abilities as a literary critic and philologian have also been shown by his many articles and by his book, "The Golden Lyre: The Themes of the Greek Lyric Poets" (London, 1983).
