PELLETIER, Jerry - Department of Biochemistry, McGill University Dr. Pelletier is a world leader in protein synthesis and its dysregulation in cancer. He has held focused research programs integrating genetics, molecular biology, mouse cancer models and chemical biology, leading to mechanistic insight into this process as well as demonstrating that it is a druggable vulnerability of tumor cells. Several of his findings are textbook material and he is an advocate of basic research benefiting human health.

The contributions of Richard Peltier to our knowledge of the earth's interior and the atmosphere through the application of rigorous fluid dynamics have been outstanding. In meteorology, he has, through sophisticated three-dimensional modelling, provided an understanding of nonlinear aspects of motions and waves, their behaviour and stability, and the onset of turbulence. In his studies of the earth's mantle, its viscosity, phase changes, conditions for large-scale convection and the mechanism of post-glacial rebound he is, without exaggeration, an acknowledged world leader.

David Pendergast has been engaged in field archaeology for 35 years of which 25 have been devoted to the Royal Ontario Museum's work in Belize (British Honduras). He has concentrated on two major sites - Altun Ha and Lamanai - which have become landmarks in the elucidation of the history, architecture, and mode of life of the Lowland Maya. His museum work has involved him in a major Maya exhibition and in the preparation of the new New World Archaeology galleries. His major works have been appearing since 1979. His reputation for painstaking excavation, clarity of interpretation, humour, and speed of publication is very high.

Gordon Pennycook is an award-winning expert on the psychology of reasoning and decision-making. His research focuses on the deep cognitive roots of our beliefs and behaviours. His work has helped improve our understanding of things as diverse as why people hold religious beliefs, to the nature of human creativity, to the sharing of misinformation on social media, to why people reject science and are hesitant to get vaccinations, among others.

Through partnerships, she has translated science into practice, programming, and policy to improve the lives of children and youth in Canada and around the world.

Dr. A.S. Perlin is known nationally and internationally for his work on carbohydrate chemistry. Initially he was interested in the chemistry of plant gums and mucilages, later he turned his attention to the use of lead tetraacetate in the determination of the structure and identification of the glycosidic linkages of carbohydrates. This procedure, which has been used by many workers, supplements evidence obtained by use of enzymes. In recent years, his major interests have been concerned with applications of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, as well as with chemical synthesis. The properties and reactions of simple sugars to the characterization of such large molecules as heparin action of carbohydrate-modifying enzymes. His career at McGill follows 20 years with the National Research Council of Canada.

Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Ontario Veterinary College), University of Guelph. Melissa Perreault is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario and is an emerging leader in preclinical neurophysiological research. Her innovative research linking innate sex-specific brain wave patterns to stress susceptibility and resilience is laying the foundation for a transformative approach to the treatment of depression and other mental health disorders: the use of brain waves as biomarkers to identify at-risk individuals and to improve treatment assessment.

Melissa Perreault est une chercheuse de la relève en neurophysiologie préclinique.
