Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Members of the Royal Society of Canada will take place will take place at the Fairmont Château Laurier, 1 Rideau Street, Ottawa ON K1N 8S7 on Saturday, November 14 at 8:00 am (In-person attendees will be served breakfast between 7am - 8am prior to the meeting), ET for the following purposes:

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Canada’s national academy, announces the 41 recipients of its prestigious 2026 awards.

Founded in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada is Canada’s senior national academy and exists to promote Canadian research and scholarly accomplishment in both of Canada’s official languages, to recognize academic and artistic excellence, and to advise governments, non-governmental organizations, and Canadians generally on matters of public interest. 

The Royal Society of Canada Announces its 2026 Class of Fellows and College Members

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announces its 2026 Class of Fellows and College Members, recognizing 159 distinguished scholars, artists, and scientists from across Canada.

One hundred and five (105) individuals have been elected Fellows of the RSC, Canada’s highest honour in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences.

On August 14, the academic community was shaken by the death of Jason Arday. This sociologist, who came from a modest background and faced personal challenges from a very early age, seemed to defy all expectations: a Ph.D., positions at several universities, a job offer from Cambridge, and a lucrative publishing deal. But his rise foreshadowed a subsequent descent into hell. The press and a group of unapologetic white supremacists accused him of plagiarism, and of embellishing his résumé and his life. The ensuing media harassment and racial predation eventually got the best of him.

The session will also provide an overview of the Canadian nomination process and key deadlines, followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.
