2026 Royal Society of Canada Eastern Ontario Symposium

The 2026 Royal Society of Canada Eastern Ontario Symposium is a free event open to anyone from the Kingston community and beyond, interested in hearing four experts talk entertainingly about their research. There will be a short period for questions following each presentation.

Tickets are required and can be obtained in advance from the IBCPA Box Office. Seating is assigned so getting tickets early will ensure a good seat. The link for tickets will be available soon. The cash bar opens at 5:30 pm.

Alexie Tcheuyap

Biography

Alexie Tcheuyap is Professor of French and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Waterloo where is also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Arts since 2024. Prior to that, he was Chair, Vice-Dean and Associate Vice-President and Vice-Provost at the University of Toronto.

Robert Boily

BIOGRAPHY

Robert Boily, C.Q., FRSC, is a multidisciplinary researcher and a senior science advisor for 35 years to the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, academia and the industry. He has worked extensively with the National Research Council of Canada, NSERC, the Canadian Space Agency, the Department of National Defense, the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS), Hydro-Québec and several other Canadian institutions.

Sophie D'Amours

BIOGRAPHY

Elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2022, Professor Sophie D’Amours is the first woman to serve as rector of the Université Laval, in Quebec City. Through collaboration, she seeks to increase the institution’s impact to better respond to societal challenges.

Sophie D’Amours is a mechanical engineer who holds an MBA and a PhD in engineering mathematics. Throughout her career, she as made several significant contributions to research, particularly in the forestry sector.
