The Royal Society of Canada is excited to announce the establishment of the At-Risk and Displaced Academics and Artists (ARDAA) program. Facilitated by the RSC College, ARDAA will support academics and artists from around the world who have been displaced through war, conflicts or threats of violence and who, prior to their displacement, were engaged in innovative and entrepreneurial research activity, demonstrating a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership and responsibility to their communities, and who were making meaningful contributions to society.
"We are taking a bold step with this program and are committing ourselves to working with our colleagues from around the world who have been forced to flee their home countries because of the research they do. Academic freedom must never be taken for granted. ARDAA is an affirmation of the RSC’s commitment to science diplomacy, to protecting global research capacity, and to our responsibility as Canadians to protect those who undertake research for the greater good,” said RSC College President Dr. Karly Kehoe.
The ARDAA program will support eligible candidates in three ways:
1. By offering membership in the RSC College to up to two eligible applicants each year. Applications are invited from eligible candidates to be part of the 2023 cohort of the RSC College. More details about the application process and eligibility criteria are available online.
2. By offering mentorship from RSC Fellows and College Members. RSC Members interested in volunteering as mentors should contact ardaa@rsc-src.ca.
3. By hosting workshops to assist eligible candidates in navigating academia in Canada. The first workshop will be held in Calgary, on Wednesday, November 23 ahead of the RSC COEE.
