The RSC Policy Briefing entitled “Wastewater Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 RNA in Canada” is now freely and publicly available here.
“With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, a remarkable alliance developed among Canadian academic researchers, wastewater utilities and public health personnel, fostered by the Canadian Water Network, to confirm and allow wastewater surveillance for genetic fragments of the virus causing COVID-19 to be implemented in a wide variety of Canadian scenarios. As the virus has continued to mutate to ever-more transmissible strains, wastewater surveillance has emerged as the most effective means for tracking the subsequent waves of community COVID-19 infection among many other beneficial applications,” said Chair of the Working Group, Dr. Steve E. Hrudey.
The RSC has prepared Policy Briefings and other resources to ensure open access to independent, evidence-based science for Canadians.
