Building on the momentum of several years of working closely together to publish the multidisciplinary, open-access journal FACETS, Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) and the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) are expanding the scope of their collaboration by inviting multidisciplinary contributions germane to the social sciences, and through the establishment of a board of RSC peer reviewers.
“The pandemic illustrated the centrality of interdisciplinarity to addressing complex issues, and the commitment of FACETS to enhance its scope to embrace research in the social sciences is exciting for the RSC community, and indeed for the research community more generally,” explains Dr. Barb Neis, President of the RSC Academy of Social Sciences.
The RSC and CSP are not-for-profit organizations with the shared goal of supporting and promoting Canadian research within Canada and globally. Both parties are mutually committed to working towards an open science future.
“FACETS is delighted to welcome interdisciplinary research from both the sciences and social sciences on society’s grand challenges such as climate change, food security, and environmental sustainability, to name just a small number of the issues confronting Canadians and the world,” says Elaine Stott, Chief Executive Officer of CSP. “As we continue to actively recruit journal editors within the RSC and from throughout the scholarly community, we will be poised to considerably amplify the reach and impact of world-class research.”
Next steps:
- For FACETS to work with the Social Science and Science Academies of the RSC to identify interdisciplinary topics of importance for Canadians and the global community and invite researchers to submit in those topics.
- To continue to recruit journal editors to support this expansion of scope from within the RSC and throughout the scholarly community.
- To identify funding models that address the financial barriers for some authors to open access publishing.
