As part of the 20th Francophonie Summit, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), in collaboration with Acfas, the University of Ottawa, and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), is organizing a meeting on the theme of relations between states and the research community within the international Francophone sphere.
The summit mobilises scientific academies and their partners from across the Francophone world, bringing together their diverse expertise in diplomacy within the international Francophone sphere, positioning the scientific academies’ distinct roles within the research scientific ecosystem.
While similar networks already exist to support the governments of the G7 and G20 countries, the creation of a new network of scientific academies within the international Francophone world also responds to the need to support the International Organisation International de La Francophonie (OIF) on critical issues that mobilise the research community, including economic development, science diplomacy, artificial intelligence, and public acceptance of science.
The study day will focus on the research ecosystem and the ability of its stakeholders to contribute evidence and expertise to inform decision-making in areas related to the economic, social, cultural, and technological development. It also underscores the essential role of science diplomacy and collaboration among research communities within this ecosystem.
