James Enns is internationally acclaimed for his research in visual attention in humans. His work has influenced prevailing theories and viewpoints in that vision is oriented towards objects, vision depends as much on feedback from higher to lower centres as it does on sensory input; and individuals differ in important and predictable ways in their ability to control whether visual selection is governed by the environment or by the internal goals of the observer.
