His work on Africana philosophy and on theories of race is already much discussed both in academic circles and in the wider community. Her groundbreaking work with Frances Kirwan led to their celebrated proof of the Witten formulas for stable vector bundles, a landmark achievement in the theory of moduli spaces; their techniques are now standard tools in symplectic geometry and other areas of mathematics and physics. The interdisciplinary nature of Jeffrey's work has an enormous value to both mathematics and theoretical physics, and especially to quantum field theory and string theory. Harold John Jennings, Institute for Biological Sciences, National Research Council, Ottawa, is an outstanding scientist of international stature who made lasting contributions to the field of synthetic vaccine technology and who has conducted work leading to the development of novel polysaccharide-protein conjugate (glycoconjugate) vaccines for the prevention of childhood bacterial infections, a technology that has set the trend for commercialization of carbohydrate-based vaccines. He is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Chemistry, theInfectious Disease Society of America, a Past-President of the International Carbohydrate Organization, and a scientific advisor to the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, and the Atlanta Communicable Disease Center.

LONG David Jenkins is a scientist of the highest international standing. He has performed pioneering research on several major aspects of carbohydrate metabolism. He was the first to identify the importance of viscous fiber in lowering serum cholesterol levels and the first to document the effects of viscous fibers on glycemia, insulin levels and the gut hormone response and to explore their mechanisms. Most importantly, he developed the concept of the glycemic index of foods based on their effects on blood glucose levels. The glycemic index, in conjunction with total carbohydrate intake, is now recognized to be an important determinant of risk of adult onset diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Jenkins' research findings have had a profound influence on public policy to develop preventive and therapeutic strategies for diabetes and coronary heart disease. Of his over 300 papers, two are citation classics, one having been cited over 500 and the other over 600 times, and an additional 19 papers have been cited between 100 and 350 times each. Dr. Janelle Jenstad has shaped the emerging field of geohumanities as the creator and director of the Map of Early Modern London, one of the most important digital humanities projects in Renaissance studies. The multilayered, detailed digital map that she envisioned and developed stands apart as a pre- eminent example of interdisciplinarity, collaboration, reach and impact. The map consistently serves 7.7 million pages annually to 200,000 visitors from nearly 140 countries.

Manfred Jericho, Department of Physics, Dalhousie University, has gained a high international reputation as an inventive and careful condensed-matter experimentalist who has made timely and incisive contributions to a variety of subjects. He has chosen problems for their intrinsic interest rather than for their convenience, and has devised the equipment and techniques needed for the experimental resolution of conflicts between theory and experiment, and among theories. While his earlier work concentrated on the study of electron-phonon interactions and of charge-density waves, he has more recently made valuable contributions in the fields of scanning-tunneling and atomic-force microscopy. His elegant pioneering studies of the elastic properties of biological membranes promise to revolutionize the understanding of these materials.

R. E. Jervis was among the pioneers in developing nuclear methods of analysis. He was especially instrumental in devising ways to apply nuclear reactions brought about in reactors and accelerators in studying trace substances down to the ppb level in chemical and biological systems. He was the first to study heavy metals including Hg, As, Pb, Cd, in the Canadian environment and diet using techniques of radioanalytical chemistry and has also pioneered, world-wide, the use of human tissues such as hair and nails to monitor bodily accumulation of toxic substances. Besides their use in the environment and in medicine, these techniques have opened several entirely new fields in forensic science.

Nathalie Jette is recognized internationally for her health services research program, most impactful in the areas of appropriateness of care and health outcomes. She has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles and has been the recipient of over 50 research and teaching excellence awards. She is Chair of the Commission of North American Affairs of the International League Against Epilepsy and past President of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy. She leads national and international task forces aimed at improving neurological care.

JHA, Prabat - Centre for Global Health Research and Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto Prabhat Jha has led pioneering epidemiological and economic studies which have established tobacco as the most important contributor to premature adult mortality and identified taxation as the most effective means to reduce tobacco consumption (enabling the first global treaty on health). Jha has done outstanding research on the reliable assessment of causes of death including the Million Death Study of a random sample of all deaths in India since 2001.

Alice Ming Wai Jim is Full Professor of Contemporary Art History and Concordia University Research Chair in Ethnocultural Art Histories. She is co-editor-in-chief of the international journal Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas. An art historian and curator, her research on diasporic art in Canada and contemporary Asian art has generated new dialogues within and between ethnocultural and global art histories, critical race theory, media arts, and curatorial studies.
