BIOGRAPHY
Robert Boily, C.Q., FRSC, is a multidisciplinary researcher and a senior science advisor for 35 years to the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, academia and the industry. He has worked extensively with the National Research Council of Canada, NSERC, the Canadian Space Agency, the Department of National Defense, the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS), Hydro-Québec and several other Canadian institutions.
His academic and professional experience is mainly in physics, electronics, photonics, imaging and high-performance materials. With a career spanning nearly 50 years and more than 1000 research projects conducted in numerous fields of science, he contributed significantly not only to the advancement of knowledge, but also to government science programs and policies.
His work has supported the development of many scientific fields in Canada, such as aerospace, photovoltaics, nanotechnologies, supermaterials, telecommunications, electrical energy and robotics. During his career, he also collaborated with some of the largest international corporations and institutions such as the NASA, the European Space Agency, Siemens AG, Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, Airbus, Philips Electronics, the U.S. Department of Energy, and many others.
He served, as president or member, on numerous scientific boards and committees (Canada, United States, Europe): the World Health Organization, RSC, AAAS, Sigma Xi, Université de Montréal, École de Technologie Supérieure and others. He was the official advisor to the Killam Prizes and Research Fellowships for 7 years (2013-2019) and scientific reviewer of the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences for 12 years (2010-2022), among many other appointments.
Mr. Boily has received some 35 awards and distinctions from scientific and political authorities of Canada, the United States, France and the United Kingdom.
