Recognized internationally for pioneering work on Renaissance Girlhood—prominently displayed in Shakespeare and the Performance of Girlhood (2014)—Deanne Williams specializes in medieval and Renaissance literatures. She established her reputation early with her prize-winning The French Fetish from Chaucer to Shakespeare (2004), which deftly identifies continuities across medieval and Renaissance literatures while infusing traditional literary studies with theoretical accounts of fetishism in Marxist, postcolonial, and gender theory.
