Gonia Jarema is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Linguistics and Translation at the Université de Montréal, where she leads research projects and supervises students and postdoctoral fellows. She is also a researcher at the Research Center of the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal, where she co-chairs the Neuroscience for Aging Axis and heads the Mental Lexicon Laboratory. Her research focuses on elucidating the cognitive processes involved in lexical processing and studying the functional architecture of the mental lexicon from a cross-linguistic, cross-disciplinary and cross-populational perspective, both in neurologically healthy people and in persons with language disorders. She led or co-led several international research projects and is currently involved in the SSHRC Words in the World partnership project as a co-principal investigator. She founded, with Dr. Gary Libben, the international journal The Mental Lexicon (Amsterdam, John Benjamins) and the biennial International Conference on The Mental Lexicon. Gonia Jarema is an elected member of the Academy of Aphasia. She is a visiting professor at the University of Padova.
