Unruh is a theoretical physicist whose work has ranged over a broad area and concentrated on fundamental problems. Chef d'orchestre, pianiste et professeure, Lorraine Vaillancourt est une figure majeure de la vie musicale québécoise et canadienne. Après avoir assumé la direction de l'Atelier de musique contemporaine, mis sur pied par Serge Garant, cours d'avant-garde où création, interprétation et pédagogie musicales sont étroitement liées, elle devint membre fondateur des Evénements du Neuf consacrés à la musique actuelle et devenus lieu de rencontre des grands courants européens et nord-américains.
En 1989, elle fonde le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, formé de 15 musiciens, où elle assume le double rôle de directrice artistique et de chef d'orchestre. Le NEM a déjà à son actif plusieurs tournées dans les hauts lieux de la musique contemporaine. Vaillancourt a contribué à la création du Groupe de
recherches interdisciplinaires sur la musique du XXe siècle, ainsi qu'à la fondation de la revue « Circuit ». Eminemment consciente de l'apport essentiel de l'interprète dans la constitution de la mémoire d'une collectivité et avec près de trois cents créations, elle contribue d'une façon exceptionnelle au dynamisme et à la qualité de la vie musicale canadienne.

Henry van Driel is a scientist of international renown who has made a mark in several major branches of laser science, nonlinear optics, and condensed matter physics. In particular, his use of harmonic generation as a probe of semiconductor surface and interface properties, and his investigations and explanations of laser-induced surface structures have opened new areas of materials research. His most significant contribution is his work on ultrafast dynamics of hot electrons and holes in optically-excited semiconductors, a topic of fundamental importance for electronic and optoelectronic devices.
