2021Cheryl Thompson is one of Canada’s leading Black studies scholars. She is author of Beauty in a Box: Detangling the Roots of Canada’s Black Beauty Culture and Uncle: Race, Nostalgia, and the Politics of Loyalty. She is internationally recognized as a key thinker on media and archives. Her work on blackface has broadened the scope of Canadian history, performance and theatre studies, archival and museum studies. The recipient of numerous SSHRC grants, in 2021, she won an Ontario Early Researcher Award.
Cheryl Thompson est l'une des principales chercheuses en Black studies au Canada. Elle est l’autrice de Beauty in a Box: Detangling the Roots of Canada’s Black Beauty Culture et de Uncle: Race, Nostalgia, and the Politics of Loyalty. Reconnue à l'international comme une autorité sur les médias et les archives, son travail sur le "blackface" a élargi non seulement la portée de l'histoire canadienne, mais a aussi eu une grande influence sur l'étude de la performance, du théâtre, des archives ainsi que celles muséales.
