Robert Boyd is an internationally acclaimed expert in nonlinear optics and photonics. He has made significant contributions to the development of methods for controlling the velocity of light, of quantum imaging methods, and for the theoretical description and laboratory characterization of materials and metamaterials that display giant optical nonlinearity. He is also noted for pedagogical work aimed at conveying the conceptual understanding of the nature of nonlinear optical interactions.

David W. Boyd is a versatile mathematician whose main mathematical contributions are in real analysis and number theory. Lately Boyd showed that Salem's construction of Salem numbers yields all Salem numbers. Raymond Bradley is internationally recognized for his research on paleoclimatology, which has made major contributions to our understanding of the nature and causes of climate change. Brindley, David N. - Biochemistry - University of Alberta
David N. Brindley has provided international leadership for understanding the regulation of lipid metabolism. He pioneered most of the work on mammalian phosphatidate phosphatases, which were identified as lipins in 2006. His studies elucidate how lipins control lipid synthesis and also act as transcriptional regulators in adipose tissue development and fatty acid oxidation. His work provides a foundation for understanding derangements of lipid metabolism in diabetes and obesity. Dr. Brindley’s other work concerns wound healing and cancer. His studies elucidate how cell division, migration, angiogenesis and chemo-resistance are regulated through the metabolism lipid signaling molecules such as lysophosphatidate and sphingosine 1-phosphate.
