The Royal Society of Canada is a registered charitable organization. Since its founding, the Society has sought to maintain a diversity of sources of funding in order to ensure its independence. Initially the Society’s operations were financed primarily by annual membership dues. Occasionally, additional support for particular projects was provided by the Government of Canada. Unlike many other National Academies, the Society does not receive any block base funding from government.

Much of the overhead and indirect costs are covered by volunteer service from the fellowship and, through the fellowship, from Institutional Members.


The Royal Society of Canada has many opportunities for you to invest in major projects and current initiatives. However you can choose to target your support for the Society, your financial contribution makes a difference in sustaining our programmes and activities. Your gift can provide direct funding to advance the objective of your choice, and may be made in your own name, or to honour the memory of a special person in your life.

All donors to the Society will be acknowledged and recognized, unless they request anonymity. There will be distinct Donor Boards for major Society projects displayed in the hallways of Walter House. We recognize our donors as soon as possible for their contributions to the Royal Society of Canada. If you would like to make a bequest or other planned gift, please inform us so that we may acknowledge you today for your gift of the future.

To make a donation, please provide your contact and payment information. The contact information is required to generate a tax receipt. The electronic tax receipt will be sent to the email address that you provide.

The RSC donation system is secured through Moneris, a trusted provider of Internet security.

The Society welcomes contributions from Fellows to a number of different projects and initiatives, both existing and new. It also welcomes contributions from Fellows and supporters in a variety of formats. Your gift can provide direct funding to support a specific RSC initiative or it can establish an endowment to sustain a project of special interest to you. We can assist you in arranging a planned gift that best meets your own needs, philanthropic goals and timelines.


Annual donations over and above dues payments enable the Royal Society of Canada to pursue its core mission and mandate. We hope that you will consider continuing to support the work of the RSC by choosing to contribute to the Annual Fund or the Walter House.

We suggest that you consult your income tax, financial or legal advisers before arranging a planned gift. We would be pleased to discuss with you ways to support the Society.


Fellows dues help to maintain the delivery of our programs and to fulfill our mandate. Dues are adjusted annually in accordance to the rate of inflation. Life time memberships are also available in lieu of annual remittances. Paper invoices will only be mailed upon request.
