The RSC is proud to serve as Canada’s National Representative Body (NRB) for The Frontiers Planet Prize.
The Frontiers Planet Prize is three awards of 1 million USD each. The winners are scientists whose breakthrough research, published in peer-reviewed journals, aims to address the planetary crisis by helping to stabilize Earth’s ecosystems so as “to enable healthy lives on a healthy planet”. Each year, three International Champions are chosen from a select group of National Champions.
As the NRB, the RSC coordinates Canada’s participation by supporting universities and research institutions in registering as National Nominating Bodies (NNBs). NNBs nominate their top scientists for the prize, recognizing research that addresses critical sustainability challenges.

Each year, Canada’s National Champion is selected by the Frontiers Planet Prize jury from amongst the nominations submitted by the RSC. This national champion then enters the international stage to compete to be one of three International Champions alongside scientists from around the world. Congratulations to Dr. Ahmed Abdulla, Canada’s 2026 National Champion!
Each of the International Champions’ institutions will receive one million US dollars, to support their continuing research.
