Dr. Miriam Stewart's innovative research explicates the interplay between social support and factors influencing vulnerability (e.g. socioeconomic status, ethnicity, gender) and well being. She is a world leader in designing social interventions and author of 5 books, 31 chapters, and 187 articles/papers. Her research programs/centres have attracted over 30 million dollars. She launched three successful centres of excellence. An international panel lauded her subsequent outstanding leadership as inaugural Scientific Director of the first national research institute on gender. She leads influential initiatives focused on women in science, gender and globalization, violence and gender, and equity for vulnerable populations which exert national and international impact.
