Paul del Giorgio is an aquatic ecologist and biogeochemist who is recognized for his seminal contributions to the understanding of aquatic microbial food webs, and of energy and carbon fluxes in freshwater and marine ecosystems. His integrative research in the boreal biome has contributed to a radical re-evaluation of aquatic / terrestrial links and of the role of inland waters, including hydroelectric reservoirs, in the global C cycle.
Paul del Giorgio est un écologiste aquatique et biogéochimiste reconnu pour ses contributions fondamentales à la compréhension des réseaux trophiques microbiens et des flux d’énergie et de carbone dans les écosystèmes d’eau douce et marins. Ses recherches intégratives dans le biome boréal ont contribué à une réévaluation radicale des liens aquatiques / terrestres et du rôle des eaux continentales, y compris les réservoirs hydroélectriques, dans le cycle global du carbone.
