Lawrence Harder has exposed new perspectives on the ecology and evolution of angiosperm reproduction. His theoretical and empirical research illustrates the contribution of plant-pollinator interactions to the diversity of flowering plants, reveals inflorescences, rather than individual flowers, as the fundamental unit of plant mating, and integrates ecological and genetic perspectives on plant mating. He has also clarified the nature of pollination problems confronting global agricultural production and identified principles for improved agricultural practice.
Lawrence Harder a ouvert de nouvelles perspectives relatives à l’écologie et l’évolution de la reproduction des Angiospermes. Ses recherches empiriques et théoriques illustrent les conséquences qu’ont les interactions plante-pollinisateur sur la diversité des Angiospermes. Elles révèlent que ce sont les inflorescences, plutôt que les fleurs individualisées, qui sont l’unité fondamentale de la reproduction de la plante. Enfin, elles marient les connaissances acquises en écologie et en génétique pour l’étude de la reproduction des plantes et clarifient la nature des problèmes de pollinisation auxquels se heurte la production agricole à grande échelle.
