Janice Boddy is a cultural anthropologist internationally renowned for her research on northern Sudan. Her highly sophisticated ethnographic monograph on spirit possession has been referred to as a contemporary classic and is very widely read. She has also conducted extensive ethnohistorical research, producing a rich and highly original study of British colonialism in Sudan.
