LONG CITATION
Guy Vanderhaeghe is one of Canada’s and Saskatchewan’s most respected and popular authors, a writer who combines prairie realism, profound engagement with western Canadian history, and a deep sense of connection to European thinkers such as Chekhov and Kierkegaard. Vanderhaeghe came to prominence in 1982 when his first book a collection of short stories entitled Man Descending, won Canada’s top literary prize, the Governor-General’s Award. He received a second Governor-General’s Award in 1996 for his novel, The Englishman’s Boy. The recipient of numerous prestigious literary awards for his fiction and plays, he is an Officer of the Order of Canada (2004) and Member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit (2003).
