Leslie Howsam is Canada's foremost scholar in the interdisciplinary and transnational study of the history of the book. Her meticulous and ground-breaking scholarship, focused on nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century Britain, uses archival and digital sources to recover the practices of authorship, publishing and reading of books and periodicals. Howsam is recognized internationally for her innovative methodology and for widening the range of book history to include history itself.

Leslie Howsam est la plus éminente chercheuse Canadienne de l’étude interdisciplinaire et transnationale de l’histoire du livre. Sa recherche sur la Grande-Bretagne du XIXè et début du XXè siècles est méticuleuse et novatrice; elle se fie sur les sources archivales et numériques pour redécouvrir les pratiques de l’auteur, de l’imprimé et de la lecture des livres et périodiques. Howsam est reconnue internationalement pour sa méthodologie innovante et pour avoir élargi la portée de l’étude de l’histoire du livre pour y comprendre l’histoire elle-même.
