Pierre Anctil is Professor of History at the University of Ottawa. He was the first francophone researcher to take a close interest in Montreal’s Jewish community, which he has studied for over thirty years. By introducing Yiddish as a third major cultural current with French and English, his work has entirely changed the way in which the history of Montreal is understood.

Pierre Anctil est professeur titulaire en histoire à l’Université d’Ottawa. Il a été le premier chercheur francophone à s’intéresser de près à l’histoire de la communauté juive de Montréal, dont il poursuit l’étude depuis plus de trente ans. Ses travaux ont modifié de fond en comble la manière de comprendre l’histoire montréalaise en y introduisant un troisième courant culturel d’importance, celui en langue yiddish.
