Dr. Hawrylak has demonstrated exceptional ability as a research scientist and enjoys an enviable international reputation. Through his scientific achievements, he has played a pivotal role in the theory underlying the fundamental understanding of artificial atoms also known as quantum dots. His outstanding contributions to science at such an early stage of his career have been recognized by the Canadian scientific community with the 2002 Brockhouse Medal and internationally with his election to Fellowship in the American Physical Society, the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Award and the Max Planck Society Fellowship. His extraordinary command of theoretical semiconductor physics has allowed for the realization of his dream of scientific excellence with positive societal impact.
