Pharmacology, drug discovery, oncology, membrane structure/function, drug delivery
Professor Theresa M. Allen is a leading international expert in the fields of membrane structure and function and drug delivery systems. Her seminal work on the design of long-circulating (Stealth) liposomal delivery systems led to the approval of the world's first liposomal anticancer drug. Her contributions to ligand-targeted therapeutics have received widespread recognition for their potential in the treatment of haematological malignancies and the treatment of solid tumors by a vascular targeting approach. She has also made substantial contributions to the discovery of new drugs from marine natural products, with two compounds proceeding to clinical trials.
