LONG CITATION
Internationally recognized for his work on Shakespeare, Alexander Leggatt has been invited to illuminate the plays for audiences from Copenhagen to Sydney. Yet his contributions always originate in Canada, where he has brilliantly taught a wide range of students to appreciate theatre that encompasses not only the classics but our own dramatic canon. A promoter of the Canadian stage throughout the world, he writes from the perspective of an award-winning teacher and theatre critic, and a visiting scholar at the Stratford Festival. Whatever form his promotion takes, he communicates with clarity of insight that inevitably raises the profile of Canadian arts and letters.
