In 2014, he was recognized in the top 1% of highly-cited international scientists in Neuroscience and Behaviour. He pioneered the use of advanced mathematical and computational techniques to study the brain’s structure and function using neuroimaging, particularly in neurodevelopment and neurodegenerative disorders. He has built an international network using a high-performance computing hub at McGill.

Jennifer Evans’ research explores critical questions regarding how queer men and women have represented their claims to community, identity, and desire in the late 20th century. Dr. Evans takes an interdisciplinary perspective to methodological questions about contemporary historical practice, including the role of subjectivity and how new media technologies aid us in re-conceptualizing the spaces where vernacular as well as institutional memory happens.

Focusing on diversity and ecosystems, he strives to better understand the causes and consequences of mass extinctions. He has discovered and named over 10 new species of dinosaurs, has curated wildly popular exhibitions, and has been featured in numerous documentaries that have established him as a superlative science communicator.

LONG CITATION Prof. Evans has made major fundamental contributions to geomagnetic science. He and his colleagues used electron microscopy to demonstrate that single-domain iron oxide grains carry stable remanent magnetizations in igneous rocks, thereby verifying the physical basis of paleomagnetism. Dr. Evans showed that the geomagnetic field remained dipolar over Phanerozoic time, validating all paleomagnetic continental reconstructions. Using magnetic properties of loess deposits in China, Evans and coworkers have dated climatic changes over the last 3.5 million years. These changes strongly support Milankovitch's theory linking climatic cycles to orbital parameters. Prof. Evans’ recent book Environmental Magnetism (co-authored with Heller) will dominate this field for years to come. SHORT CITATION Ted Evans has made major fundamental contributions to geomagnetic science by demonstrating how iron oxide grains can carry magnetization in rocks. His work has been instrumental in validating continental reconstructions throughout important periods of earth history and in developing the field of environmental magnetism for the earth sciences. His recent book on these topics will be a key reference for many years to come.

John Eyles is a leading social scientist, whose studies of the place to place variations in health and in the ways that people perceive health have served to heighten understanding of health care issues and related policy matters throughout Canada. He continues as a leader in research on the geography of health and on the relationships between environmental factors and health. His work informs many lines of ongoing debate about health care policy in Canada and many of his findings have been applied by provincial and federal agencies across the country.

Nadia Fahmy-Eid a d'abord fait sa marque comme spécialiste de I'idéologie ultramontaine au Québec, et son livre « Le clergé et le pouvoir politique au Québec » reste un ouvrage de référence majeur sur ce sujet. Elle s'est ensuite illustrée dans le champ de I'histoire des femmes au Québec et au Canada, qu'elle a grandement contribué à développer et dont elle est devenue I'une des spécialistes les plus réputées. Ses recherches en ce domaine ont surtout porté sur I'histoire de l'éducation des filles, un sujet auquel son ouvrage (avec Micheline Dumont) « Les couventines » a apporté une contribution exceptionnelle. Ces dernières années, elle a mené des recherches d'envergure sur la formation et le travail des femmes dans le secteur paramédical. Ses travaux ont ainsi permis de renouveler de façon significative à la fois I'histoire de l'éducation et I'histoire du travail. Nadia Fahmy-Eid est I'auteure ou la coauteure d'un grand nombre de publications sur I'histoire des femmes, qui lui ont valu quatre prix importants. Elle est présidente de la Société historique du Canada.

Professor Magda Fahrni, a historian at the Université du Québec à Montréal, has built an outstanding record of achievements. Her expertise in women’s and family history, in the history of Montreal and in the social history of health is recognized internationally, and in particular in Quebec and English Canada.
