Dr. Sandra Rehan is an international leader in the molecular ecology and behavioural genetics of bees. Rehan’s research combines comparative genomics and socio-demography to provide critical insights into the diversity, decline and sustainability of wild bees. Rehan is advancing our understanding of the causes of wild bee declines by developing comprehensive wild bee population genomic and disease ecology models. These results will ultimately be used to implement critical conservation strategies.

Gregor Reid has pioneered and promoted probiotics and the study of beneficial microbes since the 1980’s. His studies led to oral and vaginal Lactobacillus products benefiting millions of women to manage bladder and vaginal health. He initiated programs bringing affordable probiotic food to developing countries. He identified new pathogens in the vagina and made discoveries related to the gut, breast, heart and use of probiotics to detoxify environmental pollutants.
Gregor Reid a commencé et promu le domaine pro biotique et l’étude des microbes bénéfiques depuis les années 80. Carolyn Ren is internationally recognized for her seminal contributions to microfluidics and Lab-on-a-Chip research. Her physical and theoretical models, as well as her design and optimization tools, have greatly enhanced the understanding of transport phenomena and have enabled new, truly integrated Lab-on-a-Chip devices for high throughput screening applications. Already one of Canada’s foremost microfluidics researchers, Dr. Ren’s work promises broad and profound impacts for the global biomedical, pharmaceutical, and environmental sectors.
Carolyn Ren est reconnue internationalement pour sa contribution majeure à la microfluidique et à la recherche sur les laboratoires sur puce (Lab-on-a-chip). Ses modèles physiques et théoriques ainsi que ses outils de conception et d’optimisation ont grandement amélioré la compréhension des phénomènes de transport et ont permis la mise au point de nouveaux dispositifs de laboratoire sur puce véritablement intégrés pour les applications de criblage à haut débit. Ryan E. Rhodes is a professor of exercise psychology and director of the Behavioural Medicine Laboratory at the University of Victoria. His research is focused on early family development of physical activity, from the onset of parenthood to parenting practices to help promote activity in children. Dr. Rhodes has held several research investigator awards including CIHR (gender and health), MSFHR (population health), and the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer prevention scientist).

Paulo Ribenboim is one of the very few top specialists in Valuation Theory. He is the author of more than thirty papers, three books and a number of advanced monographs. His papers an Valuation Theory and related subjects, e.g. Theory of Fields, Theory of Rings, Ordered Abelian Groups, Algebraic Geometry, are well-known. The main part of his contribution has been to extend in a very beautiful manner classical theories of Hasse and Krull. The best example of this is provided by his article published in 1963 in the Transactions of the American Mathematical Society.

Rosemary Ricciardelli’s research is centred on interpretations of gender and experiences of vulnerabilities within systems of criminal justice. Her expertise includes prison culture and the coping strategies, risk perception, mental health and lived experiences of prisoners, correctional workers, and police officers. Her ground-breaking work has informed the creation of presumptive mental health legislation in Newfoundland and Labrador and is also recognized by Correctional Services Canada.

Brent Richards is an internationally recognized human geneticist and physician who has identified the genes causing several endocrine diseases. He has then used these genes to understand the causal role of modifiable environmental exposures in disease development and provide needed drug targets. His team was the first to identify any novel gene for a common disease using whole-genome sequencing.

Pierre Richard est le fondateur d'une école de palynologie au Québec, qui s'est illustrée, au cours des dernières années, par des développements dans tous les domaines de la discipline, de l'aéropalynologie à la palynologie marine. Si ses jeunes élèves ont acquis rapidement une notoriété scientifique dans la communauté internationale, ils le doivent à la rigueur des approches développées par Pierre Richard.
Dans ses propres démarches, le professeur Richard a tiré avantage de sa formation d'ingénieur forestier pour transcrire les données palynologiques en termes de dynamique des systèmes végétaux. On lui doit non seulement des ouvrages de référence, tel son atlas palynologique, mais aussi des contributions remarquables sur l'évolution de la végétation dans l'est du Canada, notamment celle des écosystèmes forestiers, en réponse aux changements climatiques des derniers millénaires. Fondateur de l'Association québécoise pour l'étude du Quaternaire, Pierre Richard a joué un rôle-clef dans la diffusion des recherches canadiennes en conduisant les destinées d'une revue, « Géographie physique et Quaternaire », aujourd'hui connue internationalement.
