Long Citation
Abdallah Daar, initially an internationally-acclaimed biomedical scientist and pioneering transplant surgeon, has evolved to become a leading international global health, science policy and bioethics scholar and administrator. His 2005 UNESCO-awarded Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science recognized his work that "engages in depth with issues at the crossing point of science and ethics, technology and society." His innovative science-policy and biotechnology development program and prodigious research output, with over 100 publications since 2001 alone (and over 300 in total) and over 40 million dollars in research funding, have had a major international impact. He has been central to projects with the United Nations, WHO, UNESCO, OECD and the African Union.
