John Joseph Clague, Earth Science Program, Simon Fraser University, is internationally known for his fundamental contributions to Quaternary geology and widely recognized for his assessments of natural hazards. He has, in his comprehensive and integrated reviews of Late Quaternary history of the Canadian Cordillera, presented new insights into temporal patterns of sedimentation and erosion. His research on landslides and glacier-dammed lakes have provided lessons in hazard management. His studies of coastal crustal movements and analyses of fiord and lake fills have provided evidence of frequency of major earthquakes. Respected editor, lucid and prolific communicator, Clague shares his wisdom with fellow scientists and citizens.
