Andrew MacDougall is a globally recognized researcher who examines how humans affect the diversity and functioning of environmental systems across the planet. In 20 Years Dr. George Mackie has become recognized internationally as an exceptionally gifted and versatile zoologist. He established his reputation early as a coelenterate biologist by his studies on siphonophores. His demonstration of non-nervous conduction of impulses in the epithelia of these animals in 1965 was a discovery of great significance in comparative neurobiology. It was made possible by Mackie's awareness that structure and function had to be linked in studying the behavioural biology of an animal. In later work, he applied his skills as an observer and as an experimenter, combining histological, ultrastructural and electrophysiological techniques, to hydromedusae, ctenophores, sponges and tunicates. He now stands in the forefront of comparative neurobiologists. Election to a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada would be a fitting way to recognize George Mackie's contribution to Canadian zoology.

James Gordon MacKinnon is certainly one of Canada's leading econometricians and one of the most distinguished econometricians in the world. His two principal contributions are in the development of non-nested hypothesis testing and in the design of specification tests. Both of these are major theoretical and practical advances in the field. They greatly facilitate the acquisition and validation of quantitative knowledge about the economy. He had published many articles on a wide variety of topics in leading international journals, and his recent book "Estimation and Inference in Econometrics" (co-authored with Russell Davidson) is widely recognized as the definitive treatment of the subject.

LONG Patrick Macklem has made exceptional contributions to Canadian constitutional law as it relates to Aboriginal peoples. Internationally recognized as foundational within and beyond his discipline, his constitutional publications - as well as his work on labour law and international human rights - manifest a deep commitment to interdisciplinarity and theoretical rigour. Awarded the Don Smiley Award and the Harold Innis Award in 2002, his recent book, Indigenous difference and the Constitution of Canada has effectively changed the terms of debate concerning the constitutional relationship between Aboriginal peoples and Canada. Her works explore contemporary, social justice issues with characters who are often on the margins of Canadian society. Her plays have been produced across Canada and internationally, and have been translated into six languages. She has received numerous awards including the Governor General's Award for Drama, two Chalmers' Canadian Play Awards, a Dora Award and the Siminovitch Prize.
