Dr. Maite Taboada is Distinguished SFU Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Director of the Discourse Processing Lab at Simon Fraser University (SFU). Professor Taboada’s research combines insights from discourse analysis and computational linguistics to investigate and confront pressing societal issues. She has transformed the way information is understood and disseminated, developing tools to classify online comments and identify misinformation, and drawing attention to gender representation in the media.

Sali Tagliamonte’s rich and unique array of firsthand studies of language variation and change has played a major role in advancing the theory and techniques of Sociolinguistics worldwide. Her analyses of African-American varieties, British, Northern Irish and Canadian dialects, as well as child, teen, television, and internet language have galvanized a new generation of scholars. She is also the author of acclaimed monographs in Sociolinguistic research and methodology.

Jean-Claude Tardif is a cardiologist and scientist conducting basic, translational and clinical research on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He has shown the benefits of inflammation reduction in coronary disease, which ultimately led to regulatory approval of colchicine for clinical use in large numbers of patients. He has also discovered the role of genetic determinants of responses to medications, as part of his pioneering inter-disciplinary work in cardiovascular precision medicine.
Le Dr Jean-Claude Tardif est un cardiologue et un scientifique qui mène des recherches fondamentales, translationnelles et cliniques sur les maladies cardiovasculaires athérosclérotiques. FRANK JOHN RUPERT (MAX) TAYLOR, Professor, Departments of Botany and Oceanography, University of British Columbia, has contributed significantly to worldwide understanding of the systematics, ultrastructure, evolution and applied biology of the dinoflagellates. He made seminal contributions to the general understanding of organelle origins in eukaryotic cells which culminated in his formalization of the Serial Endosymbiosis Theory. He was an active and rigorous promoter for recognition of the Kingdom Protista, and the emergence of Protistology as a major discipline. He was one of the pioneers who recognized the importance of combining information on organellar ultrastructure with analysis of the genetic code to understand the evolution, enormous diversity and complexity among protists.
Dr. Charles Taylor

Since the publication of "The Explanation of Behaviour" ten years ago, Charles Taylor has been recognized as a political philosopher blessed with a powerful and original mind. He has contributed major papers on a wide range of philosophical problems and has just completed his study of Hegel, which is now in press. His contribution to philosophy has been complimented by a variety of publications in the field of politics. This outstanding productivity has gone hand in hand with a heavy commitment to national politics which, in a less active scholar might have dried up his intellectual activity. His outstanding quality was early recognized by his election to a Fellowship at All Souls, and he has held visiting appointments at both Princeton and Berkeley. His reputation as a scholar of high achievement and continuing promise is equally high on both sides of the Atlantic. During his time at McGill he has also held joint appointments in philosophy at both the University of Montreal and McGill University.

Diane Taylor is an internationally recognized microbiologist whose major contributions include the application of genetics and molecular biology to understand bacterial antibiotic resistance. Her work led in the discovery of genetics behind the virulence and disease mechanisms of two bacteria: Helicobacter pylori, responsible for gastric ulcers and cancer, and Campylobacter, found in food and drinking water, and an important cause of gastroenteritis. She has developed methods for their genetic analysis used worldwide and has identified important resistance mechanisms. Her research on plasmids (small circles of DNA) ranges from understanding how they have evolved over time to how they transfer between bacterial cells, creating dangerous antibiotic resistance.

Fraser Taylor is one of the world's leading cartographers and a pioneer in the application of the computer to cartography. He produced two of the world's first computer atlases in the early 1970s. His publications continue to have a major impact on the field. In 1997, he introduced the innovative new paradigm of cybercartography. He is creating a new genre of online multimedia and multi-sensory atlases, including several in cooperation with northern communities. He has published several influential contributions to development studies. Many of his publications deal with the relationship between cartography and development in national and international contexts.

Dr. Templeton's measurements of the Fermi surfaces of the alkali metals, his elegant determination of the pressure dependence of the Fermi surfaces of the alkali and noble metals, studies of both Fermi surfaces and electron scattering effects in dilute noble metal alloys, determination of the phase of dHvA oscillations at infinite field (verification of fundamental theory) and recent improvement by two orders of magnitude of the precision with which dHvA oscillations can be measured, greatly enhance the international reputation which he earlier achieved together with D. K. C. MacDonald and W. B. Pearson through his classic researches on thermoelectricity. He can well be recognized as Canada's leading low temperature physicist.
