Mr. Marc Colonnier
Affiliation: Université Laval
Deceased Date: 2025-01-31
With the development of the electron microscope the science of neuroanatomy entered a new phase which permitted study of the brain in a detail not previously possible. Yet to be truly valuable the investigations require to be executed with painstaking care and attention, and the interpretation of the results must be in the context of a full knowledge of the function of the strucutre examined. Marc Colonnier is one among a small group of scientists in the world who has deservedly earned an international reputation both for his skill in the techniques of optical and light microscopy, and for the thoughtful and imaginative interpretation which he puts upon his data.

Dr. George Connell
Affiliation: University of Toronto
Deceased Date: 2015-03-13
Dr. George Edward Connell has earned wide recognition for the quality of his research through important publications dealing with the biological consequences of changes in protein structure. Earlier work on the enzyme glutamyl cyclotransferase and on bacterial peptides opened new areas of research. Studies of the human haptoglobins provided one of the first examples of gene fusion. His research on the structure of the immunoglobulins has led to knowledge of great importance. Dr. Connell has contributed unselfishly to society as a journal editor, a leader in professional groups and a consultant to national organizations. He is a respected teacher, student counsellor and colleague.

Cook, Terry - History of archives and of recorded information - University of Manitoba
Terry Cook has transformed the academic understanding of archives from being simple storehouses of old records to becoming themselves the focus for close scholarly attention. Seeing archives as sites of power, and archivists as agents of interpretation rather than passive curators, Cook has effectively reinvented his profession in Canada and internationally: from coping with the super-abundance of modern records and determining the tiny percentage that will survive as archives to responding to the challenges of digital records and of critical theory. His pioneering writing in archival history has made him a distinctive voice for Canadian archival scholarship worldwide.
G. Ramsay Cook
Affiliation: York University
Deceased Date: 2016-07-14
Ramsay Cook is one of the most brilliant and most lively of Canada's younger historians. Born in Saskatchewan, he studied at Manitoba, Queen's, and Toronto where he received his doctorate in 1960 and quickly rose to his present post of Professor of History. His books include an important study of John W. Dafoe's politics, and "Canada and the French Canadian Question". The appearance of the latter work In 1966 indicated a timely concern for the problem of biculturalism and for the future of Confederation. In addition, through newspaper and radio interviews and a host of popular articles, he has entered with gusto into public discussion of the issues of the day. Since 1963 he has been editor of the "Canadian Historical Review". In 1968-1969 he is Professor of Canadian Studies at Harvard University.

His studies on the low temperature basidiomycete causing winter killing of these crops and bacterial wilt of alfalfa, especially seed transmission, have been outstanding. He has also devised methods for testing for varietal resistance in connection with the development of disease-resisitant strains of alfalfa and other forage crops.
Dr. John Cornwall
Affiliation: Dalhousie University
Keywords: Transformation of developed capitalism economies
Deceased Date: 2008-12-04
John Cornwall, in a series of major books, including "Modern Capitalism: Its Growth and Transformation" (1977) and the "Economic Breakdown and Recovery: Theory and Policy" (1994) has followed two guidelines for macroeconomic theory: it should explain historical processes; and it should help authorities to identify remedial policies. He has challenged prevailing convictions about the capacity of economies to regulate themselves given only a suitably flexible monetary policy. He has argued forcefully that achieving simultaneously growing per capita incomes, an acceptable rate of inflation, and full employment depend on recasting institutions like collective bargaining and on effective government intervention once the legacies of past poor performance have been dealt with.

Deceased Date: 2002-03-03
