FORTH, Gregory - Department of Anthropology, University of Alberta Gregory Forth is an internationally recognized social anthropologist and ethnobiologist working in Indonesian studies. His reputation is founded on his extensive field research and the exemplary quality of his numerous books and published papers, in regard to theoretical advances, analytical insight, and their basis in substantial and meticulous ethnography. Professor Forth’s research on indigenous hominoid images first published in 1998, anticipated palaeoanthropological research leading to the discovery of Homo floresiensis in 2003.

FORTIN, Michel – Département des sciences historiques, Université Laval Michel Fortin is an internationally renowned researcher who has worked throughout his career as an archaeologist in the Middle East. Through his research in the field, he has helped to better understand some aspects of the urbanization process in northern Mesopotamia, on the one hand and, on the other hand, that of the Levant North. He also helped to develop applications of Geomatics in field archeology: excavations and surveys.

Marie-Josée Fortin is recognized internationally as a leader in spatial ecology and her career-long contributions to the field of spatial analysis in ecology. She made significant contributions in ecology by developing novel boundary-detection and connectivity algorithms based on network theory. She authored acclaimed monographs in spatial analysis, and was awarded the 2013 Distinguished Landscape Ecologist Award, and was recognized in 2014 Highly Cited Researchers from Thomson Reuters in Ecology/Environment.

Dr. Karen Foster is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Sustainable Rural Futures for Atlantic Canada at Dalhousie University. She is an enormously talented, productive and engaged scholar, whose scholarship on work, transitions in rural society, equity and public policy crosses many domains and disciplines. She combines that expertise with deep commitment and an extraordinary ability to engage meaningfully with local communities and policy makers.

Throughout his long academic career in Canada, he has worked tirelessly and with admirable success to promote Irish studies and to share his expertise. As a result he has done much to open a significant Canadian engagement with a body of literature and cultural criticism which has become an important field of study internationally and on which he is a leading authority.

Pascale Fournier is Full Professor and Research Chair in Comparative Law at the University of Ottawa. She has achieved international recognition for her ground-breaking work on gender and religion, using interviews with women in various countries to highlight the complex interplay between religious and secular law. An alumna of Harvard Law, she was named to Canadian Lawyer Magazine’s list of the “Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada” in 2015.

Pascale Fournier est professeure titulaire et détentrice d’une chaire de recherche sur le droit comparatif à l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle a acquis une renommée internationale pour ses travaux révolutionnaires sur le genre et la religion, au moyen d’entretiens avec des femmes dans différents pays, afin de mettre en lumière l’interaction complexe entre le droit religieux et le droit laïque. Ancienne élève de la Faculté de droit de Harvard, elle figure dans la liste 2015 du Canadian Lawyer Magazine des « 25 avocats les plus influents du Canada ».

Eduardo L. Franco, DrPH, PhD (Hon), FRSC, FCAHS, OC is James McGill Professor and Chairman, Department of Oncology, and Director, Division of Cancer Epidemiology, McGill University, Montreal. Since 1985, he has conducted epidemiologic research on the causes of cancer and on the means to prevent it or to improve patient survival, topics on which he has published 470+ articles, 60+ chapters, and two books. He is mostly known for his contributions to our understanding of human papillomavirus infection as the cause of cervical cancer and using this knowledge to prevent this cancer via vaccination and improved screening strategies. He received the Canadian Cancer Research Alliance’s Distinguished Service to Cancer Research Award, Lifetime Achievement Awards from the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and from the International Papillomavirus Society, the Women in US Government’s Leadership Award, the Canadian Cancer Society’s Warwick Prize, the Geoffrey Howe Outstanding Contribution Award from the Canadian Society for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of British Columbia’s Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research, and the McLaughlin-Gallie Award from the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He mentored 115 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, and 30 undergraduate trainees. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Preventive Medicine and has served in the editorial boards of several top-tier journals in oncology and epidemiology. He is Officer of the Order of Canada and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

One of the most distinguished medievalists in the world today, Roberta Frank has done more to bring alive the distant voices of those (mainly) anonymous poets who composed their allusive verse in western and northern Europe during the Middle Ages. Her deep knowledge of their languages (Old English and Old Norse) and her sympathetic, artful and scholarly readings of their compositions have contributed greatly to Canada's international reputation for excellence in Medieval Studies.

FRANKLAND, Paul - Neurosciences & Mental Health, The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute, University of Toronto Professor Paul Frankland is recognized as a world leader in memory research. His studies have uncovered the neurobiological processes underlying how we learn, remember and, in some cases, forget. Knowledge gained from Prof. Frankland’s research provides a foundation for the development of better treatments for memory-related disorders.

Dr. Marcel Franz is a Professor of Physics at The University of British Columbia and a Deputy Scientific Director of The Stuart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute. Franz is a leading expert in theories of topological quantum matter, unconventional superconductivity and strongly correlated electron systems. Franz has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions including the A.P. Sloan Fellowship (2002), Killam Research Fellowship (2007) and has been elected Fellow of the APS (2014).
