He and his students implemented and experimentally demonstrated many forms and applications of these materials, including the first isotropic Iens with a negative refractive index at microwave frequencies that overcomes the diffraction barrier of conventional lenses. In AF-algebras, a chaotic situation was completely changed by Elliott's discovery that with natural ordering, the group Ko has the Riesz separation property and is a complete invariant for the AF-algebra.

Mohamed Elmasry, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo has invented, developed and helped introduce into industry several new technologies influencing the growth of microelectronics in Canada and abroad. His scholarly research has resulted in no less than five distinct generations of integrated circuit designs. His revolutionary work on low-energy logic circuits some 20 years ago is now finding wide applications in portable telecommunications devices. Elmasry has done pioneering work in artificial neural network chip design, leading to self-learning chips, speech and character recognition systems, vocoders and echo cancellation systems. He holds 9 patents and is the author or co-author of 12 books and more than 250 scientific publications.

Combining cutting- edge enabling technologies such as mass spectrometry with computational analyses, her investigations of redox reactions between hydrogen peroxide and metalloproteins have uncovered unprecedented mechanisms of peroxide signalling and heme trafficking within cells. Additionally, her studies are unravelling how nitric oxide reacts with hemoglobin and other vital biomolecules to regulate biological processes including blood flow.
